The State of Operating Systems

I have a gripe about Modern OS's. Why are you so slow? With Computers that are millions of times more powerful, dedicated graphics processors, huge amount of RAM, computers with multiply CPU's, why does the Operating System still bog down and become unresponsive occasionally?
It does not matter what system you use: Windows, Mac OS, Linux, whatever. I never see a single computer that is using it's resources properly and efficiently. Some start up fast, but then take forever to display a file manager, some launch multiply apps like lightning for a few days and then take forever to start a single app, some assault you with meaningless dialog boxes whenever you do anything.
Come on! The Mac Os was released in 84, with Windows on it's heels, And Linux has been in the wild for over ten years. You guys are all stealing off of each other, claiming that you are the most innovative, but all your products suck. Make an OS that is responsive!
